Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Everybody has heard the saying 'the grass is greener on the other side' but I am here to question the validity of that statement. We can all look at our life, seeing every fiber of our lives that has gone astray, and then gaze onto another path and wonder how great it must be. What we don't think about is the snakes lying in wait under the cover of that oh so tempting grass, or the skeletons laying just beyond our field of site. You can read into this however you want, but think about what I say. Don't burn your bridges too soon.

As for me, I'll lay in my field of slightly browned meadow and watch the clouds roll by

NFL Idiots!

This week Travis Johnson, a DT for the Houston Texans gets my vote for NFL's dumbest player. Sunday in a match-up versus the Miami Dolphins, Johnson Collided with Trent Green, the Dolphins QB, hitting Green in the Helmet with his knee. Green was knocked out instantly, giving him a grade 3 concussion. As soon as the play was over, Johnson walked back to Green's motionless body and taunted him! I've got news for you Travis: He can't hear you.

Johnson, tipping the scales at 315 pounds, was interviewed after the game; this is the dialog from that interview:

"The bottom line is, it was a malicious hit. It was uncalled for,'' Johnson said. "He's like the scarecrow. He wants to get courage while I wasn't looking, and hit me in my knee instead of trying to hit me in my head. God don't like ugly, you know what I mean?

"My knee ain't never hurt like it hurt today,'' Johnson said. "If you want to hit me, hit me in my head, hit me in my chest, don't hit me in my knee. I'm trying to eat just like everybody else. So, to hit me like that, that showed me what type of man he was.''

Of course Green is not going to come at you head on, he weighs 100 pounds less that you do! He is a quarterback, while you are a defensive lineman. What point are you trying to get across calling Green a 'scarecrow'? You walked away relatively unscathed, while Green had to be carted off the field. While the location of the hit may have been questionable, I seriously doubt that anybody would offer up their head to get smashed for a few extra yards. I like how you are advising people to hit you in the head, because there obviously isn't much going on up there.

A Concert for Virginia Tech

September 6th, 2007 was a great night for me. This was the night that I saw the best concert that I have ever seen; and to beat it all, it was free! Dave Matthews Band assembled a star studded event that will go down in history.

The opening act, Phil Vassar, seemed to be just cutting his concert teeth, I had heard very little about him, though it was very impressive how he played piano during his concert.

The next, and quite possibly the most controversial, performer was Nas. While I don’t agree with all of his lyrics, I believed that as a person he would exercise great caution in choosing his set list, and I was not to be made a fool. Nas only performed a handful of songs in his 20 minute set, including “I can” and, as an ode to Bill O’Reilly, a short excerpt from “hate me now”. Nas did not rap about guns, killing, thugs, or even curse for that matter. I think he did a good job.

Next up was John Mayer, which was the first of the two longer sets. John Mayer was awesome. Whether or not you like his songs you have to give the guy credit because he can play some guitar. He played a lot that seemed to just come from the hip with some awesome riffs.

Then the main event, Dave Matthews Band came out and played for nearly 3 hours. It was a great night!

A reason to blog

So I have known for a while now that my father, Al, has been blogging and ranting and raving about random things. Recently on a trip to Kroger he found a bottle of Hokie Wine and found it offensive. He claims that he cannot see why a land grant institution could make a profit off of an alcoholic beverage. It seems to me that half of college students and all of the alumni are of legal drinking age. This shoots down his notion that it promotes under age drinking. I think he is just jealous because they didn't make "Marshall Wine" or the ever popular "WVUIT Wine".

In other news, I can't wait for football season to start or the concert set for September 6th.
